Broadband
Here at NECL we have given a cautious welcome to the news that Openreach is to legally separate from the main BT business.
For a while we have felt that the deregulation of the telecoms industry, whilst offering consumers greater choice, has not actually provided enough of an incentive for the bit of BT which supplies the connections to roll out more high speed lines.
It is amazing, that in an advanced Western economy, that in 2017 broadband is still a complete postcode lottery whereby where you live determines how fast (and to a degree how reliable) your internet connection is.
We hope that this step will be the first of many which will lead to the government intervening to compel Openreach to provide a fibre (fast connection) to all households and businesses.
